The National Bank of Kazakhstan and the IMF discussed bilateral cooperation issues

Governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, Mr. Erbolat Dossaev, and the International Monetary Fund (hereafter - the IMF) Managing Director, Mdm. Kristalina Georgieva held an online meeting under the IMF and the World Bank Group Spring Meetings agenda.

The parties discussed current macroeconomic situation, anti-crisis measures, which reduces the adverse impacts of COVID-19 to the Kazakhstan economy, monetary policy issues, as well as further development of the country’s financial sector.

During the virtual meeting, the IMF technical assistance for the development of macro forecasting, stress testing, cybersecurity and risk management issues have been discussed, along with the possibility of conducting a comprehensive assessment of the financial market of Kazakhstan this Autumn of 2021.

At the end of the meeting, the Governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan, Mr. Erbolat Dossaev and the IMF Managing Director, Mdm. Kristalina Georgieva, noted the productivity of online webinars by the Regional Center for Capacity Development for the Caucasus, Central Asia and Mongolia*, and discussed its opening up in Almaty by the end of this year.

*The decision to locate the Regional Center in Kazakhstan was made by the IMF in October 2019 after review of applications from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Georgia. The IMF Regional Center in Kazakhstan became the first in the region and the 17th in a row center of the International Monetary Fund for human development
