As of May 01, 2018 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 25 banks and JSC «Kazpost». These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 99,6%) like Visa International, Master Card, UnionPay International and American Express International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC «Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan» and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC «Citibank Kazakhstan».
As of May 01, 2018 banks have issued 20,5 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 17,9 mln. (in comparison with the situation on the same date of 2017, there is a growth of 25,6% and 21,5% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 82,5%, the share of credit cards – 14,8%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 1,6% and 1,1% respectively.
In April 2018 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 1 515,7 bln. tenge (growth against April 2017 has totaled 50,4%). The number of transactions reached 57,5 mln. and increased by 67,6% versus April 2017. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 125,9% (number of transactions 35,3 mln. transactions) and 131,6% (the volume of transactions – 449,5 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 18,8% (number of transactions – 22,2 млн. transactions) and 31,1% (the volume of transactions – 1 066,2 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (58,4% and 43,0% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and Internet (39,0% and 50,7% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (94,5% and 84,9% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
