In the 2-quarter of 2007 second-tier banks and JSC «Kazpost» performed 32 692.2 thousand transactions valued at a total of 21 741.6 billion KZT with using payment instruments presented in the Table 1. Overall the use of various payment instruments has been increased.
Compared with the 2-quarter of 2006 the volume of various payment instruments used increased by 24.6 percent, and the value of payments increased by 68.6 percent.
Growth in the total volume of payment instruments was due mainly to an increase in the volume of transactions using payment cards by 4 821.2 thousand transactions. Growth in the value of payments was due to an increase in the amount of payments using payment orders by 8 554.5 billion KZT.
As before payment orders and payment cards are the instruments used most commonly on the territory of Kazakhstan. The average value of payment order in the 2-quarter of 2007 was 2.4 million KZT and in comparison with the 2-quarter of 2006 increased by 46.6 percent. The high proportion of transactions using payment cards and the low volume of payments is due to the use of this payment instrument primarily for the withdrawal of small sums of cash (the average amount of a cash withdrawal transaction in the 2-quarter of 2007 was 22.8 thousand KZT).
Payment request-orders and collection orders are used the least frequently. The insignificant part of use of given instruments in total volume and value is caused by their specificity.
Other payment instruments include checks for goods and services, direct debits of bank account and executed bill credits.
