Comment by Director of NBK Monetary Policy Department Rustem Orazalin regarding Business Activity in February, 2024

In February, the business activity index increased.

In the services and production sectors, despite a slight decrease, the indicator remained in the growth zone and amounted to 50.3 and 50.1, respectively (in January – 50.7 and 50.4, respectively). Improvement is noted in all components except for delivery times.

The indicator in the mining industry and construction remained in the negative zone, despite an increase to 48.4 and 49.2, respectively (compared to January’s 45.9 and 47.2, respectively). A reduction in delivery times is observed in the mining industry.

Estimates of both current and future business conditions have improved. As a result, the business climate index, which is an average assessment of current and future business conditions, amounted to 10.5 (9.1 in January), and the business cycle clock indicator has shifted into the growth area.
