As of June 01, 2015 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 27 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 94,4%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and UnionPay International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “BTA Bank” and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citibank Kazakhstan”.
As of June 01, 2015 banks have issued 16,9 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 14,9 mln. (comparing the situation with the same date of 2014, there is a growth of 3,7% and 4,1% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 77,9%, the share of credit cards - 16,1%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 1,7% and 4,3% respectively.
In May 2015 the volume of transactions with credit cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 640,9 bln. tenge (growth against May 2014 has totaled 3,7%). The number of transactions reached 22,2 mln. and increased by 9,3% versus May 2014. At that, the number of cashless payments went up to 28,8% (number of transactions 6,8 mln. transactions) and their amount decreased to 4,1% (the volume of transactions made 76,1 bln. tenge), number and volume of operations with cash withdrawals went up to 2,5% (number of transactions - 15,4 mln. transactions) and 4,9%( the volume of transactions - 564,8 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (55,8% and 66,6% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (20,6% and 18,7% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (96,0% and 87,8% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
