As of February 01, 2016 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 26 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 95,1%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and UnionPay International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan”; Smart Alem Card – JSC “Kazkommertsbank” and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citibank Kazakhstan”.
As of February 01, 2016 banks have issued 16,6 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 14,3 mln. (comparing the situation with the same date of 2015, there is a low of 3,1% and 4,9% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 76,6%, the share of credit cards - 14,4%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 2,2% and 6,9% respectively.
In January 2016 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 638,6 bln. tenge (growth against January 2015 has totaled 15,2%). The number of transactions reached 21,0 mln. and increased by 14,0% versus January 2015. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 33,4% (number of transactions 7,7 mln. transactions) and 40,8% (the volume of transactions - 97,5 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 5,2% (number of transactions -13,3 mln. transactions) and 11,5%( the volume of transactions - 541,1 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (56,0% and 66,2% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and ATMs (13,0% and 12,7% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (95,0% and 83,8% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
