As of August 01, 2016 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 25 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 96,5%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and UnionPay International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan” and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citibank Kazakhstan”.
As of August 01, 2016 banks have issued 15,2 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 13,9 mln. (comparing the situation with the same date of 2015, there is a low of 8,5% and 4,1% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 79,2%, the share of credit cards - 15,5%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 2,9% and 2,4% respectively.
In July 2016 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 871,6 bln. tenge (growth against July 2015 has totaled 22,4%). The number of transactions reached 26,6 mln. and increased by 15,9% versus July 2015. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 32,5% (number of transactions 9,6 mln. transactions) and 55,1% (the volume of transactions - 133,4 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 8,3% (number of transactions - 17,1 mln. transactions) and 17,9%( the volume of transactions - 738,1 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (56,9% and 61,2% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and Internet (32,0% and 24,6% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (95,1% and 85,0% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
