As of February 01, 2017 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 25 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 99,0%) like Visa International, Master Card, American Express International and UnionPay International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan” and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citibank Kazakhstan”.
As of February 01, 2017 banks have issued 15,7 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 14,3 mln. (comparing the situation with the same date of 2016, there is a low of 4,9% and 0,4% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 81,3%, the share of credit cards - 14,8%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 3,1% and 0,8% respectively.
In January 2017 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 847,4 bln. tenge (growth against January 2016 has totaled 32,7%). The number of transactions reached 28,9 mln. and increased by 37,7% versus January 2016. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 66,5% (number of transactions 12,8 mln. transactions) and 59,0% (the volume of transactions - 155,0 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 21,0% (number of transactions -16,1 mln. transactions) and 28,0%( the volume of transactions - 692,4 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (55,8% and 58,6% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and Internet (36,8% and 29,8% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (93,7% and 83,0% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
