As of April 01, 2017 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 25 banks and JSC “Kazpost”. These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 99,4%) like Visa International, Master Card, UnionPay International and American Express International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC “Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan” and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC “Citibank Kazakhstan”.
As of April 01, 2017 banks have issued 16,1 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 14,5 mln. (in comparison with the situation on the same date of 2016, there is a decrease by 1,0% and growth of 3,6%, respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 82,3%, the share of credit cards - 13,8%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 3,1% and 0,8% respectively.
In March 2017 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 1 020,4 bln. tenge (growth against March 2016 has totaled 28,3%). The number of transactions reached 35,4 mln. and increased by 31,0% versus March 2016. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 64,5% (number of transactions 15,7 mln. transactions) and 53,7% (the volume of transactions - 183,9 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 12,8% (number of transactions -19,7 mln. transactions) and 23,7%( the volume of transactions - 836,5 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (53,4% and 52,2% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and Internet (39,2% and 35,6% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (94,3% and 83,8% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
