As of October 01, 2017 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 25 banks and JSC «Kazpost». These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 99,5%) like Visa International, Master Card, UnionPay International and American Express International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC «Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan» and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC «Citibank Kazakhstan».
As of October 01, 2017 banks have issued 17,9 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 15,9 mln. (in comparison with the situation on the same date of 2016, there is a growth of 16,1% and 13,4% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 82,8%, the share of credit cards - 13,5%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 2,9% and 0,8% respectively.
In September 2017 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 1 182,0 bln. tenge (growth against September 2016 has totaled 34,71%). The number of transactions reached 40,3 mln. and increased by 46,74% versus September 2016. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments went up to 108,38% (number of transactions 21,4 mln. transactions) and 104,61% (the volume of transactions – 296,5 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 10,10% (number of transactions - 19,0 млн. transactions) and 20,89% (the volume of transactions – 885,6 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (53,52% and 44,42% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and Internet (41,99% and 47,82% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (94,82% and 84,17% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
