As of December 01, 2018 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 22 banks and JSC «Kazpost». These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 99,8%) like Visa International, Master Card, UnionPay International, American Express International and Diners Club International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC «Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan» and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC «Citibank Kazakhstan».
As of December 01, 2018 banks have issued 22,7 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 18,7 mln. (in comparison with the situation on the same date of 2017, there is a growth of 17,9% and 11,7% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 78,3%, the share of credit cards – 18,3%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 1,9% and 1,5% respectively.
In November 2018 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 1 937,1 bln. tenge (growth against November 2017 has totaled 45,0%). The number of transactions reached 81,8 mln. and increased by 76,0% versus November 2017. At that, the number of payments and amount of the cashless payments increased by 2,1 and 2,0 times (number of transactions 54,7 mln. Transactions and the volume of transactions – 704,9 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 31,9% (number of transactions – 27,0 млн. transactions) and 24,4% (the volume of transactions – 1 232,3 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (59,5% and 40,1% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and Internet (37,5% and 56,7% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (92,9% and 85,7% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
