As of January 01, 2019 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 22 banks and JSC «Kazpost». These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems (their share consists of 99,9%) like Visa International, Master Card, UnionPay International, American Express International and Diners Club International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC «Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan» and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC «Citibank Kazakhstan».
As of January 01, 2019 banks have issued 23,4 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 19,0 mln. (in comparison with the situation on the same date of 2018, there is a growth of 20,5% and 11,6% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 76,0%, the share of credit cards – 20,4%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 2,0% and 1,6% respectively.
In December 2018 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 2 193,0 bln. tenge (growth against December 2017 has totaled 38,2%). The number of transactions reached 95,7 mln. and increased by 78,7% versus December 2017. At that, the number of payments of the cashless payments increased by 2,2 times and its amount went up to 95,1% (number of transactions 65,1 mln. Transactions and the volume of transactions – 802,7 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 29,4% (number of transactions – 30,6 млн. transactions) and 18,3% (the volume of transactions – 1 390,3 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (59,2% and 37,7% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and Internet (37,7% and 59,1% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (92,6% and 86,1% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
