As of March 01, 2019 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 22 banks and JSC «Kazpost». These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems like Visa International, Master Card, UnionPay International, American Express International and Diners Club International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC «Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan» and local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC «Citibank Kazakhstan».
As of March 01, 2019 banks have issued 24,1 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 20,8 mln. (in comparison with the situation on the same date of 2018, there is a growth of 23,0% and 21,0% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 75,6%, the share of credit cards – 20,8%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 2,0% and 1,6% respectively.
In February 2019 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 1 817,6 bln. tenge (growth against February 2018 has totaled 38,4%). The number of transactions reached 93,3 mln. and increased by 83,5% versus February 2018. At that, the number of payments of the cashless payments increased by 2,2times and its amount went up to 97,9% (number of transactions 67,9 mln. transactions and the volume of transactions – 718,3 bln. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 26,9% (number of transactions – 25,4 mln. transactions) and 15,7% (the volume of transactions – 1 099,3 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless payments has been made through POS-terminals (54,6% and 35,0% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and Internet/mobile banking (44,4% and 62,9% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (90,4% and 83,7% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
