As of July 01, 2019 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 22 banks and JSC «Kazpost». These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems like Visa International, Master Card, UnionPay International, American Express International and Diners Club International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC «Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan», local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC «Citibank Kazakhstan» and System of payment cards Kaspi.kz - JSC «Kaspi Bank».
As of July 01, 2019 banks have issued 26,4 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 23,3 mln. (in comparison with the situation on the same date of 2018, there is a growth of 24,0% and 26,9% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 76,1%, the share of credit cards – 20,2%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 2,0% and 1,7% respectively.
In June 2019 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 2 502,3 bln. tenge (growth against June 2018 has totaled 51,7%). The number of transactions reached 126,8 mln. and increased by 98,5% times versus June 2018. At that, the number of payments of the cashless transactions and its amount increased by 2,2 times (number of transactions 93,3 mln. transactions and the volume of transactions – 1 036,6. tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 41,3% (number of transactions – 33,6 mln. transactions) and 23,7% (the volume of transactions – 1 465,7 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless transactions has been made through POS-terminals (52,1% and 30,6% out of the total number of transactions and volume of cashless transactions) and Internet/mobile banking (47,3% and 67,8% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (91,0% and 83,0% out of the total number of transactions and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
