As of August 01, 2019 actual origination of the payment cards were mainly realized by 22 banks and JSC «Kazpost». These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems like Visa International, Master Card, UnionPay International, American Express International and Diners Club International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC «Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan», local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC «Citibank Kazakhstan» and System of payment cards Kaspi.kz - JSC «Kaspi Bank».
As of August 01, 2019 banks have issued 29,4 mln. payment cards and a number of card holders reached 26,0 mln. (in comparison with the situation on the same date of 2018, there is a growth of 37,8% and 48,9% respectively). The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 78,8%, the share of credit cards – 18,5%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 1,8% and 0,9% respectively.
In July 2019 the volume of transactions with payment cards issued by the Kazakhstan originators was 2 597,5 bln. tenge (growth against July 2018 has totaled 57,7%). The number of transactions reached 128,8 mln. and increased by 98,4% times versus July 2018. At that, the number of payments of the cashless transactions and its amount increased by 2,3 times (number of transactions 94,3 mln. transactions and the volume of transactions – 1 115,2 tenge), operations with cash withdrawals 49,5% (number of transactions – 34,4 mln. transactions) and 27,9% (the volume of transactions – 1 482,3 bln. tenge) respectively.
The main bulk of cashless transactions has been made through POS-terminals (47,5% and 27,1% out of the total number of transactions and volume of cashless transactions) and Internet/mobile banking (51,9% and 71,4% respectively). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (90,3% and 82,7% out of the total number of transactions and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
