As of October 01, 2021 actual origination of the payment cards were realized by 19 banks and JSC «Kazpost». These institutes issue and distribute payment cards of the international systems like Visa International, Master Card, UnionPay International, American Express International and Diners Club International. Beside banks of Kazakhstan issue payment cards of the local systems like Altyn Card – JSC «Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan», local card of Citibank Kazakhstan – JSC «Citibank Kazakhstan» and System of payment cards Kaspi.kz - JSC «Kaspi Bank».
As of October 01, 2021 banks have issued 56,1 mln. The most widespread ones are the debit cards with the share of 73,2%, the share of credit cards – 24,3%. The share of debit cards with credit limit and share of prepaid cards is 2,5%.
In January-September 2021, the volume of transactions using payment cards of Kazakhstani issuers amounted to 65,1 trln. Tenge. The number of transactions amounted to – 4591,9 million transactions.
At the same time, the number of non-cash transactions increased 2,3 times (the number amounted to 4388,0 million units) and the amount (2,2 times the volume amounted to 50,2 trln. tenge). Card holders conducted 204,0 million withdrawals in the amount of 14 886,5 billion tenge. There is an increase in the volume of cash withdrawal operations compared to the corresponding indicator of 2020 by 25,5%. However, there is a decrease in the number of operations compared to the corresponding indicator of 2020 by 8,7%.
The main bulk of cashless payments in Kazakhstan has been made through Internet/mobile banking (67,0% and 83,2% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments) and POS-terminals (32,9% and 16,4% out of the total number of payments and volume of cashless payments). Transactions of cash withdrawals have been realized mainly through ATMs (98,7% and 87,6% out of the total number of payments and volume of cash withdrawal transactions).
