General Data Dissemination Standard (GDDS)

The purpose of GDDS creation is the satisfaction of statistical requirements, as a result of world economy globalization.  Increasing integration of economic activity makes deeper demand on broad scope of economic data for realization tasks of macroeconomic management.

Joining to GDDS IMF member countries voluntarily take charge of improving data quality, prepared and disseminated by appropriate statistical systems in long-term perspective to meet developing need of users community in fields of economic management and evolution.

GDDS assures the provision of comprehensive, timely, reliable and available economic, financial and social-demographic intrastate and international statistics. For purpose of intergovernmental compatibility data, GDDS contains recommendations on four parameters:

Coverage, periodicity, timeliness

Dissemination of reliable, whole and timely economic, financial and social-demographic data to ensure transparency of macroeconomic performance and policy.

Data quality

Dissemination of documentation, concerning methodology and sources, used in preparing of statistics, information of component detail, comparison with interfacing data and statistics background, frameworks that support statistical cross-checks and guaranteeing the reasonableness as well.

Data reliability

a)  dissemination data on the terms and conditions under which official statistics are produced, including those are of concern to data confidentiality, some sources of that can be defined.

b)  identification of internal government access to data prior to release

c)  identification of ministerial commentaries on the occasion of statistical releases

d)  provision of information about data revision and advance notice of major changes in methodology

Accessibility by the public

Advance dissemination data release calendars and simultaneous provision data to all interested parties.

GDDS consists of metadata on four the most important economic sectors: real, fiscal, financial, external and social-demographic.

Follow government bodies are responsible for metadata provision on mentioned sectors: Ministry if Finance - fiscal sector, including the Central Government transactions; Statistical Agency of Republic of Kazakhstan - real (national accounts) and demographic sectors.

The National Bank of Kazakhstan disseminates statistics data for financial and external sectors (broad money survey and balance of payment).
