The National Bank of Kazakhstan announces publication of the Research Program. The document defines the strategic and medium-term research objectives of the National Bank based on its goal of ensuring price stability, as well as its role in the field of financial stability.

Sustainable achievement of these goals requires the study and consideration of many factors that shape the economic environment, channels of mutual influence, and an accurate understanding of the challenges facing the Kazakh economy.

The document comprises five main areas:

• macroeconomic policy,
• international economy, regional and global trends,
• financial markets, financial stability and macroprudential regulation,
• new technologies and the future of finance,
• statistical matters and exploring new data sources.

Prospective issues that require a comprehensive study are formulated for each area. In future, this range of questions is planned to be refined and supplemented.

The development and publication of this document is in line with the best practices of leading central banks and is aimed at increasing public understanding of the research tasks of the National Bank, strengthening the level of public discourse, creating a constructive informational and analytical environment and directing the scientific potential of the academic community to find answers on topical issues of economic policy.

External partnerships are a key part of the research strategy. The National Bank intends to continue the practice of providing research grants, started in 2021, in order to stimulate the scientific potential of the academic community. The new program also complements the NBK’s Research Program for 2021–2022.
